Paul Melia Retiring From Position of CCES President and CEO

September 14, 2022 – The Board of Directors of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) wishes to inform you that Paul Melia, will be stepping down as President and CEO effective January 30, 2023.

Paul joined the CCES as Director of Education and Communications in 1991 and steps down as President and CEO after a remarkable career working with government and sport organizations to develop an athlete-centred approach to fostering ethical sport. Through his leadership and governance skills, the CCES has enjoyed a period of extensive growth and has evolved from an organization responsible for administering the Canadian Anti-Doping Program to one which now promotes positive sport cultures through values-based sport and addresses other threats to the integrity of sport such as competition manipulation. His humble character, coupled with his open and transparent communication style, has contributed to the CCES being recognized as an international leader in anti-doping, values-based sport, and sport integrity.

Paul leaves the organization in an excellent position. A new five-year strategic plan is complete and provides a pathway to enhance the CCES’s focus on building positive sport cultures through a values-based approach, while addressing unethical threats to the integrity of sport.

Paul continues to be committed to the vision, mission, and work of the CCES. He will remain on to support the transition to a new President and CEO who will be selected following an executive search process.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, we thank Paul for his years of dedicated service and look forward to his ongoing support of the CCES.
