The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport cheers on London-bound athletes

(Ottawa, Ontario – July 26, 2012) – The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) would like to wish all members of Team Canada good luck at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“The Olympics and Paralympics are the pinnacle of sporting excellence,” said Paul Melia, President and CEO of the CCES. “Achieving this level of competition requires years of practice, dedication and an uncompromising desire to reach one’s full athletic potential. We’re proud of our athletes and we’re excited to watch them compete on the world stage.”

Canadians can take comfort in knowing that the CCES, a long-time leader in the fight against doping in sport, provides extensive education to athletes and their support personnel so that they are fully aware of their rights and responsibilities in London. In addition, the CCES implemented a comprehensive and sophisticated pre-Games testing program driven by intelligence to ensure the highest risk athletes were tested at the most effective times.

“Our education and anti-doping program is second-to-none,” said Melia. “It allows clean athletes to compete on a level playing field and deters cheaters from sullying the good name of true sport – the sport Canadians want.”

The CCES encourages all Canadians to cheer on our athletes as they compete in London. Go Team Canada!
