Solutions

When it comes to sport, all participants have the right to be treated ethically and with respect, and it is the sport community's collective obligation to do so. Beyond this, there is also the need to respect the institution of sport—to protect the values that make sport a special part of our culture. If we all ensure that our individual conduct is ethical, we can uphold this respect for sport.

Sport and physical activity have a tremendous impact on the lives of individuals and communities. For individuals, sport can be a source of pleasure and enjoyment, a means of enhancing health, a method of interacting with the environment, a social event, a source of friendship, an opportunity to excel, and in a more intangible way, fulfilling our human potential. For communities, sport can be a source of pride; a manifestation of shared values, an aspect of local or national culture and a means to promoting health and well-being.

Our vision will see a Canadian sport system where the right to play is backed up by widely available sporting opportunities, and these sporting opportunities are intentionally imbued with what it takes to build individual character and vibrant communities.

The CCES’ mission is to foster ethical sport for all Canadians. This includes promoting a deep respect for values at all levels and all types of sport, by catching the public’s interest in this topic, increasing its understanding of it, and thus expanding the practice of values-based sport in Canada.

We’ve started to compile a set of tools that can help with this endeavour in various ways. The information found in our Concerning Sport section is meant to advance our understanding of various issues, and these Solutions are targetted at providing practical information and tools to help individuals and organizations strengthen their practice of values-based sport.

If you or your organization has a tool that might be a solution for members of the Canadian sport community, we’d love to hear about it! Please email info@cces.ca with a short description of your resource and links to any online support.
