The Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC) is a national, sport-specific alternative dispute resolution organization geared toward resolving conflicts that arise within the Canadian amateur sport community.
The ADRsportRED was launched in January 2002 under the auspices of CCES and in partnership with Sport Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee, AthletesCAN, and the Commonwealth Games. On April 1, 2004, the program moved to its permanent home at the SDRCC.
The SDRCC is less costly and resolves conflicts more quickly and efficiently than the traditional judicial court system. Trained and experienced mediators, with a general knowledge of the sport system, make final binding decisions on disputes.
Based on the model used by the international Court of Arbitration for Sport, the SDRCC is composed of an independent arbitration process and a disputes secretariat to administer hearings. The program’s resource centre helps athletes and the sport community make best use of the program. It includes a repository of sport arbitration decisions available in both official languages and a variety of information packages. Download the SDRCC code.
